The slot start date must be in the future. Once the opening time of a  
slot has been reached, new reservations are no longer allowed.   
However, the slot also has a date for when students may start  
reserving.  This must be in the past, for the slot to be available for  
selection.

Probably not necessary, but unlikely to be the cause of the problem.

I assume the slot was set to be student-selectable when it was created.
