[LON-CAPA-users] firewall on student computers

Hi,

So the problem appears to be the combination of the ZoneAlarm Personal
Firewall, which MSU recommends and might have included in their Windows
Resource CD, http://help.msu.edu/ethernet/zonealarm.install.html , and
the new Windows XP Service Pack 2.

This firewall and the new Windows XP Service Pack 2 Firewall, which
became available two weeks ago, appear to run interference. Each
product runs fine by itself, the combination causes trouble.

I have informed the MSU Helpdesk and an entry will be added to the
LON-CAPA student FAQ. The solution is to switch off ZoneAlarm in the
presence of the new Microsoft Firewall.

Thank you to everybody who made their computer available. Please let me
know if this does NOT fix the problem.

- Gerd.
