[LON-CAPA-admin] FW: Missing Grades for Several Courses

Hi,
We have never lost any grades in the 23-year history of LON-CAPA, so my strong hope is this can be recovered. The fact that this seems “catastrophic” and across courses may actually be a good thing, indicating a less-than-subtle problem.
What exactly does it mean that the “grades have disappeared”? When you look at the course assessment progress charts, are the students still there? If the students do not show up, likely simply their roles have expired. You can find that out by choosing “any status” in the selection box at the top, and see if they show up again, that’s it.
To see if anything else may be happening at the application level, please look through /etc/httpd/logs/error_log and in /home/httpd/perl/logs?
I would start looking at an operating system / hardware level instead of an application level:
* Go through the shell history: has anything been done from the command line?
* Do a “df” and see if any file systems are full
* Has a backup been accidentally done the “wrong way around”, e.g., was an rsync done from the backup system to the production system?
* Has there been a disk/filesystem error? What is going on in the logs at /var/logs?
- Gerd.

Unfortunately, the time indication I have is that this occurred between Wednesday afternoon and Friday afternoon, based on reports thus far. Nothing else seems wrong with the system and we haven’t had any performance issues reported. Any advice that can be given would be greatly appreciated.
