It seems to me that if you want to determine whether you should
include the Advanced Role privilege (which is a system-level
privilege) in a custom role, you do actually need an exhaustive list
of what assigning that privilege allows.
So, in the interests of contributing to LON-CAPA's documentation, I
have provided that list below.
Note: features which are impacted by the "Advanced Role" priv, and are
only available in the forthcoming 2.11, (i.e., are not in the current
2.10.1), are annotated with: (2.11).
****
Additional functionality available to "Advanced Role" system level users:
1. Inline menu
(a) Roles link (names Courses, unless "advanced" user)
(b) Stored Links access via drop-down menu (2.11)
2. Help menu (in help window display when following "Help" link in
inline menu):
(a) Help links to manuals (2.11)
(b) Link to "report a bug"
(c) Link to FAQ-o-matic (where applicable)
3. Help pages -- search textbox displayed
4. Main Menu: Stored Links (2.11)
5. Roles screen
(a) Current privileges listed if directed to the roles screen, because
a privilege needed to see the originall requested page was absent.
(b) Text of button for current role is "Re-initialize" (not re-select).
6. Browsing a resource, not currently in a course
"Show all foils" option available.
7. Resource in a course set to "practice" question type
"Show all foils" option available.
8. Metadata
(a) Dynamic metadata (access and usage stats), evaluations,
difficulty, courses using resource etc.
(b) Static metadata - report if marked obsolete
9. Messaging
(a) Option to save composed message for re-use
(b) Message display can include links to:
View recent activity, Set/Change parameters, Set/Change grades (if
appropriate privileges set)
(c) Displayed message included "citation"
10. Course Search
(a) can be filtered
(b) will find matches to itemsin "hidden" resources/folders.
11. "User tools" access for the following:
(i) AboutMe page, blog, webDAV (2.11), portfolio
(ii) Course/Community requests
(iii) Authoring Space requests (2.11)
can be set for "Advanced users" to override defaults based on status
(i.e., faculty staff or student).
12. Feedback
Option to send feedback to resource author
13. Calendar
Includes entries for hidden resources in course.
14. Resources in course with URLs set to be encrypted are not
encrypted for "Advanced" users
15. Discussion

voting is closed to other users (2.11) a message. informing you of
that will be displayed.
16. Hidden folders/resources
Hidden resources are shown in Course Contents (randompick and or
randomorder noted), and can be viewed.
