The dependencies will likely be screwed up; new content might access  
dependent files from the old domain, or have the wrong <allow>-tags.

Nope, no way to retire authors gracefully.

Right, I would do that.

Sorry for this, when the system was designed, multi-domain machines  
were not considered, and we wanted

* "standard" URLs /~user/
* be able to mount author spaces on desktops

Neither of that turned out to be very important, and multi-domain  
machines were more important than planned.
