Hi Stefan,

The authentication mechanism used to is immaterial to how to create
users.


Chapter 7 of the Course Coordinator manual:

In summary:
Main Menu -> ENRL -> Upload a class list

Covers instructor mediated large scale student enrollment. 



There also exists a Auto Enrollment mechansim which you can set up,
that would have lon-capa contact your universities LDAP, ask for the
current classlist of the the course and auto-create/drop any users for
the course.
(The summary of how to implement this is 
- read and modify the file /home/httpd/lib/perl/localenroll.pm

And then Autoenroll.pl (which runs nightly at 1:30 am) will
automatically update courses that have turned auto-enrollement on.

(and the ENRL screen will have options for configuring the
auto-enrollment)



Currently there is no offical mechanism for student to self-enroll
into a course.
