[LON-CAPA-users] Mysterious "Internal Error"

I just want to "touch" this thread again. So it seems that not all users/systems are experiencing this issue. This brings me back to my original question:

Any thoughts on where to start looking to see if we can debug this?

Should bug #6653 be re-opened?

I used maxima on several multi-part problems with a class of 135 in spring
2015 without any students reporting timeout issues. I had a single textbox
for response in all cases. I had individual problem parts where each part
used maxima.

It would appear that bugs 6653 and 6676 are both alive and well!

There was a bug #6653 that was fixed in loncapa ver 2.11. What version are
you running? Click the little computer icon to see the loncapa version
number. I see a couple other bugs reported for maxima with unordered
responses for example.

My students have been encountering the following error when working some
questions.

----------------------------
Code ran too long. It ran for more than 10 seconds. timeout at
/home/httpd/lib/perl//Apache/run.pm line 122.

This occurred while running:

&caparesponse_check_list()

This error occurred while processing response 11 in part 0 The error
occurred on host tccfll1
-----------------------------

The student sees the generic message "An internal error has occurred, please
try again later."

There is no reason the code should be running long, such as an infinite
loop. The error occurs with many different types of problems. The one
common thread is that maxima is called, either as a formula response or
somewhere in a script.

Sometimes I get the same error in Authoring space. The first time an edited
question is displayed, I sometimes receive this error. I click "New
Randomization" and all is well.

Any thoughts on where to start looking to see if we can debug this? Anyone
else having similar issues?
