[LON-CAPA-users] CourseWeaver? Feedback needed!

Sorry I have not joined the discussion sooner... (it's been a hectic start of semester thus far).

Regarding the "Gradebook":
I don't know exactly what is involved in "bundling" or the discarding of "all grades relative to weight", but those changes sound very positive to me.

Here's one or two thoughts that immediately come to mind:

Marks and text/html items or comments in the gradebook should be editable within the Gradebook view, and not necessarily require repeat uploading from a file for individual changes.
To clarify what I mean: Currently we used "GradeInfo" and "Comment" score uploads a lot. Then, if we want to revise either those items for individual students we have to prepare another file to upload. It would be better if we could just edit, *directly* in the Gradebook display or Grading interface, an individual student's "GradeInfo", "Comment(s)" or, for that matter, "points" or "partial credit factor". (I realize that the latter can be adjusted in the Grading interface -- but wouldn't it be neat if you could view a screen of multiple students, with their scores and comments, in a display which can be directly edited and saved?)

The batch file upload is, of course, necessary, but being able to also edit individual's records in the interface would be a nice polish.

There should be multiple "Comments" allowed for any gradebook score.

Another grading enhancement, which I'd like to see, is the ability to batch score, not only bubblesheet multiple choice questions, but actual numerical questions as well. i.e. We should be able to upload a file of actual student numerical answers and have them graded.

Thinking about homework: There should be the facility to force regrade of a previous submission.

I'll have more suggestions/wishes later.... I expect.

:-)

Cheers,
Ray

This list has been growing, based on your feedback. Have a look and keep the suggestions coming!

Things are moving here at MSU for CourseWeaver, http://www.courseweaver.org . For a while now, I have had an office in Spartan Innovations, and we are about ready to float the first version of our business plan. This can go many ways, but a preferred way for me would be to get funding from more universities than just MSU and form a consortium around this entity.

I would need some help in identifying the right person at your institution to bounce off the business plan and the vision, once we have a "public" version of it.

Thanks,

- Gerd.
