[LON-CAPA-users] FW: [Bug 4967] line breaks do not work inside table cells with colspan or rowspan

AT Felicia's suggestion, I'm forwarding this question to the users list.

Apparently there is a problem in translating table information into LaTex
for printing. I know nothing about how that translation is done, so forgive
me if I state the issue incorrectly.

Apparently there was a bug in using an align tag (like center) in a table
that got fixed, but in the process putting a <br /> in a table cell no
longer worked. (Check out the comments on the bug link below).

The question is what folks feel is more important--being able to put a <br
/> in a table cell (not doing so can make a table stretch too wide for
printing in a two column format), or having the ability to center something
in the table cell?

Or whether there is another way altogether as Felicia is suggesting below?

Robley

------- Additional Comments From felicia@lon-capa.org 2007-02-13 10:05
------- What about creating an attribute for <table> like TeXwidth for
<img>? This way, a power user like Robley could choose which mode to use?
...just an idea. I'm also wondering if this is a bad idea and if users want
the other mode, maybe they can use <web> and <tex> to choose the latex (Ron
would this work?). The ultimate question still comes back to Ron's question
- which evil do you want:
broken <br> or broken centering.

Robley - you are the only person getting Cc'd on this report besides Ron or
I.
I can get the person who is Cc'd on all the td centering bugs to contribute
to this discussion. Feel free to bring up this debate on the lon-capa-users
list too.
