I used to be a glutton for self-inflicted punishment too.
I agree with most of your reasons for printing and distributing.
I did it for 5 years with CAPA, but decided the time had come to stop
when I switched to LON-CAPA. I'm so glad.

Even when I was providing them, only about 60% elected to pick up the
distributed sheets. I can only guess that most of the others chose to print
the pdf that we made available online.	It sure seemed wasteful thowing out
the 300 or so left-over sheets every week.

It was different with CAPA where we had complete control over TeX. Now it
would be more difficult to get the degree of control I would want. So it
seems to me worthwhile to take advantage of the automatic pdf generation
(despite a few flaws) and let the students decide if and what they want to
print.

I think now that students are going to have to learn new ways of developing
good work habits. Since I stopped printing (beginning in one course 3 years
ago) I have only had one student come to me and complain about the cost of
printing. It seems to me that the current generation all can afford to have
expensive computers and internet connections at home, so printing costs are
a minor perturbation.

My two bits, just in case you are wavering.

Cheers,
Ray
