[LON-CAPA-admin] No user data imported / available after account creation

LON-CAPA supports automated updates of user information from an institutional data source such as LDAP.

This does require the allusers_info() subroutine in /home/httpd/lib/perl/localenroll.pm to have been customized to query LDAP.

Documentation for the allusers_info() routine is available in the uncustomized version of that file:

Anyway, as regards configuration via the web GUI:

Select the Domain Coordinator role in your domain, and use:
Main Menu > Set domain configuration > Display ("Auto-update settings checked").

Choose:

Auto-update active?  Yes
Update information in classlists? Yes
Skip updates for users without active or future roles? Yes
Skip updates for inactive users? Yes  [inactive = no activity in last _____  days

Assuming all these users with incomplete user information have logged into LON-CAPA since they self-enrolled you could set the number of days in the " no activity in last _____  days" to a number that would encompass the time period during which LDAP data had *not* been retrieved during account creation.

You also need to check checkboxes for user account information which can be updated from your institutional data source.  Possible data fields are:
Last Name, First Name, Middle Name, Generation, E-mail address, Student/Employee ID

Push "Save Changes".

If you have previously created institutional status types (e.g., instructor, student etc.) via;
Main Menu > Set domain configuration > Display (Default authentication/language/timezone/portal/types checked) then you can specify which types of user account information may be updated for each status type.  (You'd also want the corresponding status type to be available from LDAP).

There is an entry for Autoupdate.pl in /etc/cron.d/loncapa which will run it daily (as the www user) at 3:30 am local time.

If you run the Autoupdate.pl script directly from the command line, after updating your domain configuration as described above, and checking that the allusers_info() routine in localenroll.pm has been customized to obtain the missing account information, make sure you run it as the www user, and not as root.

Autoupdate.pl records what it did in /home/httpd/perl/logs/autoupdate.log.
If that file is currently absent that means "Auto-update active"  is currently not set in your domain (or set to 0).

Good afternoon from Wolfenbüttel,

we encountered a problem that for some accounts created via self-enrollment in specific courses over the last few days,
user data (first name, last name, email) was not imported.
The automatic LDAP sync apparently failed, so we only have the user IDs right now.
Is there a way to force a re-sync via LDAP to pull the missing data, or do we have to fix this manually?
