Paul,
Thank you for reporting this.
Although a sql_mode change is not the cause, a change in MySQL 8 (as used on a LON-CAPA server/VM running Ubuntu 20LTS) is indeed the cause. Domains running other Linux distros/versions are unaffected.
Anyway, I have filed a bug report, implemented changes (and marked the bug as resolved). See: bugs.loncapa.org/show_bug.cgi?id=6963 for for details.
Anyone running LON-CAPA 2.11.3 on Ubuntu 20 LTS, may wish to view the instructions in comment #1: bugs.loncapa.org/show_bug.cgi?id=6963#c1
which describe how to patch 2.11.3 to accommodate a change in MySQL 8 behavior from previous MySQL versions, (and also from Mariadb, as used by other Linux distros on which LON-CAPA is supported).

Subject: [LON-CAPA-admin] Correct Problems Plot
Hello all,
A couple of our faculty have noticed that the Grades » Statistics and Reports » Correct Problems Plot returns incomplete or nonsensical data.
In one instance, a five-problem quiz where each problem was worth two points showed only a bin for the "10" students and no other values. After clearing the cache, I saw only the "6" results.
A 55-point exam in a different course returned a graph with 31, 33, and 48 as the only results.
Is it the case again that an sql_mode value has changed with Ubuntu 20.04 LTS?
Paul
