Why do you say this? 

LON-CAPA's install sets the password on the mysql www at localhost
account, and lon-capa never accesses MySQL as any other user.

So the root pasword can be different with no issues that I know of.

You shouldn't want to do this.

Iyou do want the published resources to appear as search results, You
can run

/home/httpd/perl/searchcat.pl

as www.
