[LON-CAPA-admin] RH 7.3: openssl and kernel updates

Hello,

for those of you who run RedHat 7.3:

due to popular demand SFU now makes updates to RedHat 7.3 packages
available via anonymous ftp from

ftp.sfu.ca

in the directory

pub/linux/1.0/RPMS

Thus, if you use those settings for check-rpms you will get more reasonable
email notifications.

There is actually a new [and, in my opinion better (hey I wrote it!)]
version of check-rpms out there, check-rpms-3.0.0-2.noarch.rpm.
Available from the ftp directory above or from its own web page:

http://www.sfu.ca/acs/security/linux/check-rpms.html

The new version now supports SuSE, RedHat, and Fedora.

WARNING: I did not find the time to incorporate check-rpms into
loncapa yet. The problme is not check-rpms (which is 100% backward
compatible), but CHECKRPMS, which I do not know much about.

Anyway here are the latest security updates:

kernel:
rpm -ivh kernel<type>-2.4.20-30.7.<arch>.rpm
where <type> is either empty, "-smp" or "-bigmem" and <arch> is one of
i386, i586, i686, athlon.

rpm -Fvh kernel-source-2.4.20-30.7.i386.rpm \
         kernel-doc-2.4.20-30.7.i386.rpm

openssl:
rpm -Fvh openssl-0.9.6b-36.7.<arch>.rpm \
         openssl-devel-0.9.6b-36.7.i386.rpm \
         openssl-perl-0.9.6b-36.7.i386.rpm \
         openssl096-0.9.6-25.7.i386.rpm \
         openssl095a-0.9.5a-25.7.3.i386.rpm

mod_python:
rpm -Fvh mod_python-2.7.10-1.i386.rpm

check-rpms -v --update -ik -ftp ftp.sfu.ca/pub/linux/1.0/RPMS

should do the trick (you do need the new version for the -ik (install-kernel)
flag).

Cheers,
Martin
