What kind of cdrom drive do you have? Is it a combo drive (DVD, CDRW, etc.)?
Although these are IDE devices they use a SCSI driver (because CD recording
is SCSI based) using the ATAPI interface. To the OS the device appears
like a SCSI device. On my RH 7.3 desktop:

$ ls -l /dev/cdrom
lrwxrwxrwx    1 root     root            4 Nov  7 20:47 /dev/cdrom -> scd0

Thus, it may be worth to try "SCSI" and see whether that works.
Can't hurt anyway :-)
