  While I did not explicitly try the samba password change (my
 development clients are all walled off from netbios access), I did
 see that a password entry is created when the account is created
 (File system auth only !), and that it changes if you change the
 password. 
  Current versions of the scripts invoke smbpasswd both for the
initial password creation and to change passwords, smbpasswd works
only if smbd is runing.
