The LON-CAPA "name" server at MSU has the following information for your LON-CAPA library server:

lonHostID: winonal1
LON-CAPA domain: winona
hostname: loncapa.winona.edu
protocol: https
internet domain: winona.edu
primary library server: winonal1

However, the login page: loncapa.winona.edu/adm/login displays:
Server: winona1

This is likely the cause of the "error: unable verify users home machine"

If I were you I would change the lonHostID from winona1 to winonal1 in /home/httpd/lonTabs/hosts.tab and in /etc/apache2/loncapa.conf on your new LON-CAPA VM  and then restart the LON-CAPA daemons using:

sudo /home/httpd/perl/loncontrol restart

and reload the web server using

sudo systemctl reload apache2

I added a bunch of (student) users to a class yesterday.  For some of the users, I saw the error, "Generating user: error: unable verify users home machine."

Is this because of a permissions error that I should fix in the loncapa.winona.edu machine?
