Why it is a bug? It seems to be import to distinguish between

   <m> $ \widetilde{\nu}=1/\lambda $ </m>
or <m> \( \widetilde{\nu}=1/\lambda \) </m>

and, on the other hand,

<m> \[ \widetilde{\nu}=1/\lambda \] </m>
