[LON-CAPA-users] custom rights and propagation questions

To answer my own questions, from observation, this is what appears to be true:

1) Within the same domain, at least, the propagation of custom rights, seems to be pretty quick.

2) "Allow User" in a specified domain, but with no specific user specified, *appears* to allow access to the resources for all users in the domain.

3) When a Domain coordinator simulates the login of another user, he receives his own rights (dom coord) rights of access to resources otherwise restricted by custom rights.

4) "Allow User" in a specified domain and for a specific user (who is a course owner/coordinator) does NOT cascade to allowing the resources to other users enrolled in in a course owned.
One would need to either specify the courses or allow all users in the domain (see point 2).

(please correct anything which turns out to be incorrect)
There may be a concise description of the hierarchy and syntax somewhere, no?

Cheers,
Ray

Subject: custom rights and propagation questions

A few of general questions about custom rights files and their application.

Assuming that the first rule remains as
"Deny Default"

1) The feedback when setting rules says that the propagation of rights can take an hour or so? This makes it difficult to test the effect of setting some customrights. Is this still true?

2) If one selected to "allow" "User" in a particular domain, but did not specify any specific user(s), does that mean that all users in the domain are allowed, or none?

3) If a domain coordinator simulates the login of a particular user, does he receive his own rights (dom coord) rights, or the simulated user custom rights for viewing and importing resources as a course coordinator?

4) Do the rights cascade to all courses owned by a user who is "allowed" or do the courses also have to be specified.

I don't seem to locate this info in the manuals but probably it appeared much much earlier on this list.
Maybe worth a review.

Thanks,
Ray
