Our own Gerd Kortemeyer will soon receive the Teacher-Scholar award here 
at Michigan State University. 

 From the MSU Faculty Handbook:
Teacher-Scholar Awards are made to six members of the faculty from the 
ranks of instructor, assistant professor and associate professor who 
early in their careers have earned the respect of students and 
colleagues for their devotion to and skill in teaching.
