Eureka! I figured out what cause the problem!
It seems to be some bad interaction with a style file I am using in the
course in question. The style file in question is at:
/res/vcu/jmsullivan/style_files/prob.sty
I've been using this style file in all my courses for about a year now.
However, when I removed it from the course environment the issue with the
maxima problem disappeared. It now behaves as expected. If I put the style
file back in the course environment, the problem reoccurs.
So, what is wrong with using this style file with the CAS response type
problems? I like my style file and would like to keep it if possible.
Thanks for any help,
Jay
