Hi, There is a new lonc that first tests if a remote machine answers to "ping" before trying to open a socket. This is supposed to cut down the number of lonc children senselessly hanging around. Currently, I consider this lonc "experimental", and it will give definitely give you grief with way-outdated versions of Net::Ping. - Gerd.
