Peter,

Yes, the vertical alignment functionality in lontexconvert.pm rev 1.93  
makes use of the capabilities of mimeTeX 1.7.  However, there were  
some issues with 1.93 so it was not included in LON-CAPA 2.7.99.0.   
Those issues are resolved in lontexconvert.pm 1.94, which has been  
included in 2.7.99.1, and will also be in 2.8.0.
