Subject: Re: [LON-CAPA-admin] LaTeX Errors with Printing

JaBari,

When you run ./UPDATE to install LON-CAPA, it should check for the
existence of /usr/share/texmf/tex/latex/picins/picins.sty, and install it,
if required, assuming this is a Linux distro where the TeX package does
not automatically include it. Wwhat Linux distro do you have installed on
these access servers?

If you still have access to the lon-capa-2.11.1 directory within which you
ran ./UPDATE to install LON-CAPA on your new access servers, then you can
use the following commands (as root) to install
/usr/share/texmf/tex/latex/picins/picins.sty and then run
/usr/bin/texconfig rehash.

cd loncapa-2.11.1/loncom/build

cat ../../doc/loncapafiles/picins_check.piml | \ perl piml_parse.pl
"development" "rhes6" "" |perl

(assuming you have Red Hat 6Server installed).

However, you might look in the WARNINGS file created when you ran ./UPDATE
to install LON-CAPA to see if there is a message about picins.sty (it
should be very close to the end of the file).

It might say something like:

"/usr/share/texmf/tex/latex/picins/picins.sty created and
/usr/bin/texconfig rehash ran successfully."

or

"No action required - /usr/share/texmf/tex/latex/picins/picins.sty
already exists."
Not sure if this is intermittent or not. If it consistently fails, we
had a similar issue. My notes say:

The permissions on a latex file needed corrected so the web server
could read it. To be exact, the following commands were ran:

chmod 755 /usr/share/texmf/tex/latex/picins

chmod 644 /usr/share/texmf/tex/latex/picins/picins.sty
*Subject:* [LON-CAPA-admin] LaTeX Errors with Printing

Good Morning All:

Our instance has developed a strange, inconsistent problem in the past
week. Printing in LON-CAPA is not working 100% of the time on 3 of
our Access servers and is inconsistent on the Library server. The
error message that is presented is:

LaTeX could not successfully parse your TeX file.

It probably has errors in it.

Here are the error messages in the LaTeX log file:

! LaTeX Error: File `picins.sty' not found.

Type X to quit or to proceed,

or enter new name. (Default extension: sty)

Enter file name:

! Emergency stop.

l.3 ...kage{wrapfig}\usepackage{picins}\usepackage

[T1]{fontenc}^^M

End of file on the terminal!

I am completely at a lost as to what to even check for a this juncture
as the LaTeX package appears to be installed on the servers. Any
advice from the gallery?

Thanks so much!
