[LON-CAPA-admin] running loncapa behind nginx reverse proxy

A question was posted to this mailing list a while ago asking if anyone was running LON-CAPA behind a reverse proxy.

A couple of months prior to that post to the listserv I had created a related enhancement request ( #6914) in LON-CAPA's bug tracking system, with the title: "Support for remote IP extraction from X-Forwarded-For in request header". See: bugs.loncapa.org/show_bug.cgi?id=6914

Anyway, I have just marked that bug as resolved, after completing testing running LON-CAPA behind a web application firewall/reverse proxy (WAF).

The required changes are not in LON-CAPA 2.11.3, released in March 2021, but they will be in the next LON-CAPA release.

A dependency on perl-Net-CIDR needed to support the changes to address bug 6914 was included in LONCAPA-prerequisites rev. 1.26 (for RHEL, CentOS, Scientific Linux, Oracle Linux, SLES, and Fedora) and a dependency on libnet-cidr-perl is included in loncapa-prerequisites rev. 1.26 (for Ubuntu).

The 1.26 version of the prerequisites package was moved to the LON-CAPA production repos on January 9, 2021, and is the one required for the LON-CAPA 2.11.3 release.

Hi lon-capa admins,

Are any of you running loncapa behind an nginx reverse proxy /

I'm trying to do so and, while much of loncapa is working just fine, I'm
encountering some problems. I'm hoping to find some help here.
