I expect the problem is an issue with hostname <=> IP mapping for your VM/server.  You need a static IP assigned to your node, and you need a hostname assigned to that  IP address.  You also need reverse DNS set correctly.

If I run the host command for: loncapa.winona.edu and also for: 23.99.228.207, what is currently reported is: "not found" for both.

You can include an IP -> hostname mapping in /etc/hosts on the LON-CAPA server/VM  (and also on any machine you are using to access LON-CAPA) while you are waiting for the hostmaster for the winona.edu to update DNS records.

Another possibility is that you indicated use of https when you ran ./UPDATE to install LON-CAPA, but you have not installed an SSL certificate for your web server, signed by a recognized certificate authority.

The entry for your LON-CAPA node in /home/httpd/lonTabs/hosts.tab will either include http or https, and should include the hostname of the server/VM (i.e., loncapa.winona.edu).

I'm setting up a new lon-capa server.  Once the system is running, I create a new course (as either domain coordinator or regular instructor account with permissions).  In either case, when I select the course I see the error,

Invalid map: /home/httpd/html/adm/notfound.html

Is this a lon-capa configuration error, or did I forget to click a box when setting up the course?
