[LON-CAPA-admin] System services

We just moved our server from suse to Centos, and I'd like to turn off
any unnecessary services. The install documentation for Centos
recommends to install the "Base" system from the installer CD. I did
do that on my test server, but neglected to do so on when installing
my production server, so my production server was equipped with the
absolute minimum package install and only a subset of the services
that comes with "Base." The difference between "Base" and "Minimal"
are these services:

acpid
anacron
auditd
autofs
bluetooth
cpuspeed
cups
firstboot
gpm
hidd
irqbalance
lm_sensors
mdmonitor
nfslock
pcscd
portmap
readahead_early
rpcgssd
rpcidmapd
sendmail
smartd
yum-updatesd

Are any of these necessary essential or helpful for a lon-capa server?
Is sendmail is needed for external mail (I'm only getting internal
mail...)? Services I'm not sure about: auditd, irqbalance, nfslock,
rpcgssd, rpcidmapd, and smartd? Are any of these needed?

The following services installed by the minimal system (and also by
base) also seems unnecessary:

atd
avahi-daemon
kudzu
mcstrans
network
restorecond
lvm2-monitor
xfs

Turning off the above services would leave these services running on the system:

crond
haldaemon
httpd
ip6tables
iptables
loncontrol
messagebus
mysqld
netfs
sendmail
sshd
syslog

are these the minimum needed?

Thanks for any comments.
Lars.
