Jim,
Unfortunately, SuSE 9.3 on 64 bit is the one combination of
distro/architecture, for which LON-CAPA is supported, where I am currently
without a Xen domU (VM) for building RPMs, and installing/testing LON-CAPA.
I uploaded the src rpms for the new packages required for LON-CAPA 2.6.X to
the LON-CAPA install web site:
http://install.loncapa.org/suse/9.3/SRPMS/
I have successfully built RPMs from these for SuSE 9.3 for 32 bit.
LONCAPA-prerequisites-1-10.suse93.lc.src.rpm
gnuplot-4.2.0-2.suse93.lc.src.rpm
perl-DateTime-0.41-1.0.suse93.lc.src.rpm
perl-Params-Validate-0.89-1.0.suse93.lc.src.rpm
If you use wget to retrieve these src rpms, you can use:
rpmbuild --rebuild gnuplot-4.2.0-2.suse93.lc.src.rpm
etc.
to build RPMs on your 64 bit machine, and then use
rpm -ivh gnuplot-4.2.0-2.suse93.lc.x86_64.rpm
etc.
to install them.
You'd need to install the perl-Class-Singleton.rpm (available from the
LON-CAPA repository -- it's a noarch rpm), and some other packages to be
able to build the rpms.
Once the RPMs are built, it would be good to replace the sles9 x86_64 rpms
currently in the SuSE 9.3 LON-CAPA repository with the suse93 ones.
If you'd like me to help out, contact me offlist. I should be able to build
the rpms if you can provide me with a login to a 64 bit SuSE 9.3 machine.
I'd also recommend that perl-PostScript-Simple is updated to 0.07, as a
LON-CAPA printing issue (http://bugs.loncapa.org/show_bug.cgi?id=4796) has
been reported for PostScript-Simple 0.04, which is the version available
from the SuSE 9.3 core repositories. There's a noarch rpm for
perl-PostScript-Simple in the LON-CAPA SuSE 9.3 repository. The final
comment in the bug report describes what needs to be done in yast to update
from 0.04 to 0.07.
