Dear Friends and Collaborators,
As many of you already know, Helen Keefe, our NSF ITR Project Manager
for over four years, is moving up to an Academic Specialist position
in the Continuing Appointment ("tenure-track") System here at
Michigan State University, working in the Continuing Education
program of the College of Osteopathic Medicine. She will have a wide
range of responsibilities for the provision of educational
opportunities for physicians (not physicists :-( ...) working at a
number of hospitals around the state and the nation. Her move
coincides with the end of our NSF ITR project funding.
I am personally very excited about this opportunity for her, which is
an ideal match with her interests and skills - of course, at the same
time, I can see myself drowning in an ocean of chaos and
disorganization, missing project reports and other deadlines, getting
stranded at airports I didn't mean to go to, and sleeping under
bridges in strange cities. Please expect the same fate when coming to
our future conferences and workshops. I will also miss Helen's
comments, encouragement, support, ideas, and cheese cake.
I know many of you will also miss Helen. While I acted as the grumpy
inhospitable pessimistic German in our group, Helen in particular
provided the necessary balance. Not sure where that leaves us - Helen
greatly contributed to the outside personality of our group in ways
that are beyond me. And I don't want to even think about the
organization of the upcoming LON-CAPA conferences and workshops.
Friday was Helen's last day in our group, and Monday she will start
in her new position. You can still reach Helen at helen at lon-capa.org
for personal emails for a little while longer, but ITR project-
related email should now go to me for grumpy inhospitable pessimistic
consideration.
Please join me in congratulating and thanking Helen!
- Gerd.
